Handbags Go Quiet: Suede, Soft Shapes and the Return of the East-West Bag

Handbags this season are taking a quieter approach. Loud branding and oversized logos are stepping back in favour of fine-grain leather, textured suede and mixed materials — a shift several luxury houses have leaned into with soft, slouchy totes, relaxed shoulder bags and rounded, crescent-shaped silhouettes. One of the more nostalgic returns is the 'East-West' bag: a long, horizontal shape that echoes the look of the late 1990s and early 2000s, now reworked in structured leather and suede. Belted details, which had already been building momentum, are set to continue through the rest of the year, alongside a growing appetite for convertible bags that switch between a shoulder bag, crossbody and clutch. Whichever shape you're drawn to, the throughline this season is texture over logo — a well-chosen suede or soft-grain leather bag is doing more of the talking than branding ever did.
